[Separation of sperm by micromanipulator from unusual forensic sample - case report]. / Separace spermií pomocí mikromanipulátoru z neobvyklého forenzního vzorku - kazuistika.

The aim of this study is to provide an information about the method of processing of unusual forensic sample that was submitted for the sexual assault case. We analyzed microscopic sample of vaginal swab stained using the hematoxylin-eosin mixture. After removing the covering glass we failed to collect the sperm cells to the micromanipulator capillary. The cells even started, due to the mechanical stress, to fall apart. We think that the main reason of the microdissection failure is the advanced cell lysis. Due to the negative results of the DNA analysis we defined a set of preventive and corrective actions that would (in case of application) increase the chance of positive identification in similar sexual assault cases.

Allele frequencies and population data for 11 Y-chromosome STRs in samples from Eastern Slovakia.

Haplotype data of 11 Y-STR loci (DYS391, DYS389I, DYS439, DYS389II, DYS438, DYS437, DYS19, DYS392, DYS393, DYS390 and DYS385) was obtained from 629 Slovak Caucasian men living in Eastern Slovakia. A total of 474 haplotypes were identified, of which 395 were unique. The haplotype diversity value was 0.9982. Pairwise haplotype distances showed that the Eastern Slovak Caucasian population is not significantly different from the Slavs populations and is separated from the Balkan nations and the German speaking populations.
